MHFA takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use challenges by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental health challenge or substance use disorder. This course covers worsening signs and symptoms all the way to crisis intervention. We offer specialized training for Public Safety Officials, Fire/EMS, Active Military, Veterans, and their Families. QPR is a 1-hour gatekeeper training. A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. This course covers how to question, persuade, and refer someone who may be suicidal, how to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide, the common causes of suicidal behavior, the warning signs of suicide, and how to get help for someone in a crisis. You will get a certification at the end of the course. - QPR Mission
This is 2 hour general suicide prevention course where you learn the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs for suicidal ideation. We break down the language, statistics, and facts around suicide while practicing non-judgmental language. You will walk away from this course with a good grasp on how to identify suicidal ideation, how to start a conversation, and with easily accessible resources. Upon request we can talk about specific populations such as LGBTQ+, active Military and Veterans, Minorities, Higher Education, and more!
A best practice youth mental health promotion and suicide prevention program designed to harness the power of peer social networks to create healthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, violence, bullying, and substance misuse. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing wellbeing, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping, and belonging. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention. This upstream model strengthens multiple sources of support, or protective factors, for young people so that when times get hard, they have strengths to rely on. - Sources of Strength Mission
