We strive to increase positive coping skills to successfully practice mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility.
Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. The importance of our mental health is vital in navigating how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Our goal is to educate individuals on how to increase resilience by creating positive coping skills while successfully practicing mental, emotion, and behavioral flexibility. We want to develop a community of aware and educated individuals to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and effectively respond in crisis situations. We often do not have control over negative events in our lives, however, how we choose to respond defines our resilience.
According to the CDC (2021), 12.3 million people have seriously considered suicide, 3.5 million made a plan for suicide, 1.7 million attempted, and nearly 48,000 completed. We are training effective and successful gatekeepers. Our programming focuses on reducing risk factors while strengthening protective factors, highlighting research based prevention strategies, and developing a foundational understanding of suicidality.
Our health education programming focuses on behavioral social science drawing from biological, environmental, and psychological sciences to promote education-driven behavior changes. We aim to empower individuals and communities to exemplify and encourage others to partake in positive change.
We offer a wide range of needs assessment work which determines the gaps between a current and desired outcomes. This is the beginning stage of strategic planning, which can help define the goal for mental wellness of an organization or community. We use prevention science principals to guide our assessment with the focus on reducing risk.
Marie Gray is the founder of Resilience Consulting. She has her Masters Degree in Prevention Science from Washington State University (WSU) with a focus in health education, suicide prevention, youth cannabis prevention, health communication, and health promotion. WSU was awarded the SAMHSA Garrett Lee Smith (GLS) Campus Suicide Prevention Grant. Marie was part of the grant writing team and managed the grant for WSU. When she isn't providing mental health education, she is often with her dog Luke, at the lake or the Snake River near Pullman WA. Luke is working hard to become a therapy dog so he can join in on Marie's mental health advocacy adventures.
Luke is a 6 year old rescue from Texas, Marie worked with a non-profit to coordinate his travel up to the PNW. He has been enjoying the snow, lakes, and great hiking the PNW has to offer for the last 3 years. Luke loves to meet new people and is a soon to be certified good boy! He is testing for the AKC Canine Good Citizen and will start training in October 2023 to be a certified therapy dog. He should be fully certified by 2024 and will be able to join Marie when requested. You can also request Luke, starting in 2024, to come to events or spend time with him! His favorite things are his blue Nerf ball, cookie treats, and following Marie around wherever she goes!
We are trained in the field of Prevention Science (PS). PS is a diverse field that encompasses evaluation and dissemination of scientifically based programs to promote well-being of individuals and communities. We have training in psychology, communications, public health, and statistics. This makes for a holistic approach to all aspects of mental health programming and assessment.
